“Beautiful Birds”
When a widowed birdwatcher reluctantly teams up with her granddaughter for a local birdwatching competition on the Isle of Bute, their search for rare species becomes a heartfelt journey through grief, love, and letting go.
About the director
Tommy’s debut short film, Reappear (2020), enjoyed a highly successful festival and awards run — screening at Raindance, Norwich, Cinequest, and Foyle, among others — before being acquired by Disney+.
Inspired by the experience and with a growing passion for short film, Tommy went on to found the British Short Film Awards (BSFA), which he led for five years. Under his direction, the BSFA became a celebrated platform for championing and showcasing emerging filmmakers from around the world.
In 2025, Tommy passed on the reins of the BSFA to focus on a return to writing and directing. His latest project, Beautiful Birds, stars Jenny Seagrove (Local Hero, A Woman of Substance) and was filmed on the stunning Isle of Bute.
