Director’s Statement
Scott C McIntosh
I have always been fascinated with films that use striking colour.
Throughout University I’d write scripts with myself as cinematographer in mind - I wrote what I wanted to shoot as no one else was coming up with ideas that interested or inspired me. GASP was my passion project always in the back of my mind. It wasn’t until I graduated University feeling burned out that Cameron told me we should make GASP ourselves.
The premise was kept simple as we aimed to make a ninety second short. So, I decided on a couple experimenting with a vacuum sealed bag to achieve the ultimate sexual pleasure. Cameron and I liked the aesthetic of bold lighting reflecting off the plastic bag as it tightens round the person inside. It’s a horrific scenario yet visually alluring.
As a filmmaker I look up to auteurs such as Nicolas Winding Refn and Gaspar Noé who create spectacle driven experiences. My ambition is to continue creating films that I’d like to see more in cinema and if people happen to enjoy my work – that’d be fantastic.
