Director Biography

Ross Ferrier is an award-winning filmmaker based in Inverness, Scotland. Since graduating from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh he has worked in the corporate film sector in the north of Scotland. Ross works closely with his brother Garry Ferrier in producing dramatic short films which aim to pull the audience into a situation outside of their own experience.

Director’s Statement

The idea for Aground came from a desire to show a relatable human character in a dangerous and challenging situation where the viewer is invited to struggle along with every step of his endeavor to escape. This is a conceptual narrative film that prompts the audience to question the world surrounding the dark situation and environment presented. Who or what has put the character into this situation?

The chains, the labyrinth of the forest and the contents of the chest represent the struggles of everyday life and the burdens we are chained to by expectation and responsibility. This underlying narrative is subtle and unimposing in order to allow the viewer greater freedom to interpret their own story.
